Aurora University is a private, nonprofit, co-educational university located in Aurora, Illinois, United States, 40 miles (64 km) west of Chicago. Founded in 1893 as a women’s college, it is now home to more than 5,000 students at its main campus and online.

History of Aurora University

Founded in 1893, Aurora University is a comprehensive, private institution located in Aurora, Illinois. Aurora University was originally established as George Williams College by a group of men from the YMCA. The college was named after George Williams, the founder of the first YMCA in England. In 1902, the college became part of Moore Theological Seminary and was renamed Moore Academy. In 1929, the academy split from the seminary and was renamed Aurora College. The college became a four-year institution in 1951 and was renamed Aurora University in 1985.

We offer more than 50 undergraduate majors, 20 graduate programs, and two doctoral programs. Our faculty are experts in their field and are dedicated to teaching our students.
